Description

This work reflects on menstrual shaming and menstrual poverty in the Chinese community. The mirror scene represents rash assumptions of the public about menstruation in a patriarchal society under the name of advanced technology and economic strategy. Young girls in menstrual ads are misrepresented with full vitality at all times, menstruation blood color is censored as the color blue. All these realities are projected on the mirror, the irony of one’s presence. In the performance, the hay, a sanitary napkin in ancient times, is a satire on the current situation of menstruation in China that is oftentimes not respected or acknowledged.
